How to Use Chiropractic Keywords to Grow Your Practice
This article is written for chiropractors and describes how to use chiropractic keywords in your clinic marketing.
As a chiropractor who runs your own clinic, no doubt you’re already aware of how competitive the health and wellness industry can be online. With almost all patients turning to Google to find a local chiro in their area, ranking well in search results is important to attract new patients.
Not only that, but ranking well for a range of condition-based keywords, such as ‘back pain treatment’, ‘neck pain treatment’ or comparison keywords like ‘chiropractor or physio’ can help you to attract patients who may not even be looking specifically for a chiropractor.
But how do you find the right keywords?
As an SEO consultant with over ten years of experience helping chiropractors and other small business owners to rank high on search engines, I’ll walk you through what keyword research is, why it matters, and how to find and use chiropractic keywords to attract more patients to your practice.
First up, what’s keyword research?
Keyword research is what you do to identify the words that people Google when trying to find you.
I always describe keyword research and the use of keywords in SEO like a ‘question and answer’ process. Someone has a question or a need, and you want to provide the best answer or service. You need to know what their question is in order to answer it.
So, you need to know what keywords they are searching for in order to show up for that keyword.
Keyword research is still a vital part of any local SEO campaign, and we have to get this part right in order for the campaign to be successful.
How to do keyword research?
There are a couple of ways you can do keyword research.
One simple and free way is as follows:

1. Start with a seed keyword search
- Type in your basic keyword in Google, such as “chiropractor” or “back pain relief”.
- Watch for Google’s autocomplete suggestions. As you type, Google will suggest phrases. These are popular keywords you can use.
2. Check out the “People also ask” section
- This usually shows at the top of the search results and shows commonly asked questions related to your keyword. You can use this in your FAQs page.
3. Look at the top organic results
- Who is ranking in the top spots? Review their title and meta descriptions to see which keywords are used. If they are ranking in the top spot it’s for a reason, so take note of what you see.
4. Analyse “Related searches” at the bottom of the page
- Scroll to the bottom of the SERP to see “Related searches” for your keyword.
- These suggestions provide additional keyword variations and ideas that are highly relevant and worth considering for your content strategy.
Here is how to use paid keyword research tools:

If you want to subscribe to paid SEO tools like I do, you could consider Ahrefs or SEM Rush. Pay monthly, use their tools to gather your keywords and qualify search volumes, and then cancel the subscription.
- Start with Keywords Explorer
- Search with your keyword under the Keywords Explorer tab.
- This panel will show you monthly search volume, traffic potential, keyword difficulty, keyword ideas, questions, other keywords to rank for, and similar topics.
The more advanced features show you what other chiropractors are ranking for, their backlink profile, top pages, and heaps more.
What are chiropractic keywords?
Here are the 10 highest volume ‘chiropractor’ keywords.
| Keyword | Monthly search volume |
|---|---|
| chiropractor | 17,000 |
| chiropractor sydney | 2,200 |
| chiropractor brisbane | 1,300 |
| chiropractor perth | 900 |
| chiropractor canberra | 700 |
| chiropractor gold coast | 700 |
| chiropractor adelaide | 700 |
| chiropractor geelong | 600 |
| chiropractor townsville | 600 |
| chiropractor melbourne | 500 |
You can see they are all location-based keywords. That is, people searching for a chiropractor in their city or suburb.
What’s the take home message?
This is the keyword you should optimise your Home page for, as it’s the most relevant, and you must show up in search for your local suburb or city.
When it comes to other chiropractic keywords, here are the top 10 treatment-related chiropractic keywords, based on the ‘chiropractor for’ keyword prompt.
| Keyword | Monthly search volume |
|---|---|
| chiropractor for sciatica | 100 |
| chiropractor for babies | 90 |
| what does a chiropractor do for lower back pain | 80 |
| chiropractor for back pain | 60 |
| chiropractor for lower back pain | 50 |
| physio or chiropractor for back pain | 50 |
| chiropractor for neck pain | 50 |
| physio or chiropractor for neck pain | 40 |
| chiropractor for kids | 30 |
| chiropractor for pregnancy | 30 |
This table shows you the 10 highest volume ‘chiropractor for…’ keywords. What it means is that people often search by specific condition. Now, search engines like to show local results first.
So if you publish a range of condition pages optimised for these keywords respectively, you should show up with someone in your city searches with one of these keywords.
Note that the search volumes are not as high when compared to city/suburb keywords. That’s because most people search for ‘chiropractor’ or want to find a local chiropractor.
So your priority is to rank locally, first. Once that is done, you can then shift your attention to the conditions pages.
Examples of chiropractic keywords
Here are some examples of chiropractic websites that rank really well on specific pages for specific keywords. Take a look at how their chiropractic website design helps support their keywords.
First up, keyword ‘chiropractor Eastern Suburbs’

Let’s take a look at how local Sydney chiropractor ‘Sydney Spinal Care’ ranks for the keyword ‘chiropractor eastern suburbs’.
- They have published an SEO-focused suburb/region keyword page.
The page is relevant to prospective patients as it covers the geographic area they are located in.
The headline is the H1 heading, which indicates to search engines what the main keyword is.
This keyword receives around 30 searches per month, and they rank in the top 4 search results. Even though its a low volume keyword, its highly relevant.
Next, keyword ‘chiropractor Ashfield’

Here, you can see a local suburb keyword ‘chiropractor Ashfield’ being used by My Back Relief Clinic.
- The page is optimised for this local suburb keyword
- Even though the clinic is not located in Ashfield, it’s located right next door, so its still relevant and useful to have this page show up in search
- The copy is unique on this page and still addresses the needs of potential patients while promoting chiropractic services.
This keyword receives around 60 searches per month. Having dedicated suburb pages for suburbs immediately around you is a good strategy, as you are still close to where the patient is searching for, and it increases your local visibility in search.
Service based keyword ‘pregnancy chiropractor Sydney’
